Media Mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission for Pamlico County Middle School media center is to foster academic excellence, social maturity, and broaden individual potential by:

1.)  Providing access to a diverse media collection with input from the community, staff and school Media and Technology team that will support the curriculum of PCMS, the North Carolina state frameworks, and the common core standards. 

2.)  Working collaboratively with teachers, the media assistant, and the technology facilitator to develop literacy and informational skills including: the ability to locate, access, and retrieve information and to effectively evaluate and utilize the information found. 

3.)   Promote a love of reading and help students become 21st century learners in an ever-changing society.

Policies:
Student Loan Policy:
-Students are responsible for keeping up with their LIFETOUCH card.
- Students may check out up to 2 books at a time unless given special permission for additional titles
- Books are due within 2 weeks.
-Books may be renewed as often as needed within a reasonable time frame.  

Damaged & Lost Books Policies:
-Students are responsible for lost and damaged library books, just as they are responsible for textbooks.
-If you damage a book please DO YOU attempt to repair at home.  The library staff will repair it properly for you.
Behavior Guidelines:
-Respect people and materials

-Cooperate
-Have a good attitude
-Have a purpose - be focused and productive.

Media Goals for the 2018-2019 School Year:
The Library Media Specialist along with the Technology Facilitator will collaborate with instructional staff to integrate information skills across the curriculum.
The Media Staff will implement research skills needed to analyze information independently and increase higher order thinking skills.
The PCMS Media program will promote a love of literacy and an appreciation of a wide variety of reading, listening, and viewing resources through activities promoting competent, lifelong users of information.
The PCMS Media program will help ensure that all information skills are taught and that students develop the skills necessary to access, evaluate, use and communicate information.
